Photo by Glenn Bewley TIM DeLANEY Bassist Tim DeLaney was born in Champaign-Urbana, Illinois. When he was 3, his family moved to Tallahassee, Florida, where he grew up in the same neighborhood as his bandmates in The Sight-seers, the pop combo Tim joined in 1987 as a high-school student. His grandmother, a master of the double bass, presented Tim with his first electric bass, a bright-orange Baldwin Baby Bison, which he still plays. Tim received a bass scholarship to Florida State University, where his father was a flute instructor. In 1992, The Sight-seers, relocated to Atlanta and eventually released their debut album, Funseeking with The Sight-seers (Shotput/57/Sony, 1996), co-produced by Jeff Calder of The Swimming Pool Q’s. Tim has played electric and acoustic bass with The Swimming Pool Q’s since 2000, and he also appears on The Q’s 2003 disc, Royal Academy of Reality. With songwriter Everett Young, Tim has produced and engineered The Sight-seer’s smashing disc, Now We’re In The Sun. His ambient collaboration with Brad Lewis and Scott Herren, Kopernik, was released on the Eastern Developments label. Tim’s additional production credits include the following artists: Steven Satterfield; The Hots; Roy Owens, Jr.; Dial 8; Tarmac; Bach on a Hook; Tragic Plastic; The Selmanaires. He also plays upright bass in the Atlanta jazz quartet Dave Bass Ensemble.
